Work Location – Whitelee Windfarm

Course and College – HNC Electrical Power Engineering – Wind Turbine Maintenance and HNC Electrical Engineering @ Ayrshire College in Ayr

Our four-year Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Apprenticeship programme offers the opportunity for on-the-job learning and unique work experiences. Throughout your course, you’ll see how your studies relate to real life Renewables operations scenarios, from the principals of Wind Energy and Power Engineering to Electrical, Mechanical and Hydraulic theory. You’ll develop your hand skills through practical work tasks on our fleet of onshore wind turbines, helping bring your learning to life.

Throughout your course, you’ll see how your studies relate to both traditional and current engineering methods, building the foundations of your career as a technician. And at the end of the programme you’ll be ready to become an Operations Technician.

You’ll need two Highers at grades A-C (or equivalent) including Maths and either English or Physics. You’ll be working on our turbines which can be up to 90 metres high, so you’ll need to be comfortable operating at heights. Most of our windfarms aren’t accessible by public transport, including Whitelee, so you must have a driving licence to get to and around the site.
